Who I Am
Career Journey
In 2015, I was wrestling with career burnout. I had been a software developer for seventeen years at this point and, though I truly enjoyed the problem-solving aspects of my job, corporate politics and seemingly endless red tape had worn me down. So my therapist and I took a side trip from our usual work on anxiety and assertiveness to hone in on my career.
Then my therapist asked me a simple yet profound question: “What would your ideal job look like?” I told her I’d want know that what I did mattered. I said I’d want a job where I helped others. I considered a teacher, but for me, there were too many students to really get to know them.
I said wanted something where I could be there for people one on one. Maybe I could do something where I help people on an emotional level and connect with them.
Then it hit me: “Kinda like what you’re doing with me right now.”
That’s when I decided to go back to school for counseling. I started at Kutztown University in January of 2016. Between taking it slow and the pandemic disrupting my first internship, I graduated in May of 2023. From there, I started my first job with a large hospital system and roughly one year later, this practice.
A Smidge of Personal Info
While a good bit of counseling involves slogging through some tough stuff, sometimes you have to pace yourself and lighten up a bit. Which is where I find being a goofball really helps. I love to make dad jokes and lean into my natural ridiculousness on occasion. Humor is a super effective therapeutic tool to lighten a heavy heart.
In my spare time, I enjoy learning new things (I am a super curious person), petting furry creatures, playing nerdy games with funny dice, and hanging out with my family.
